Dear Marathon Diary,
Well how the months creep on and the fitness stays reasonably static, really need to push on a gear or two and the circuit training is back in force to aid that.
We had Easter to contend with, and I don't know about you, but in our family home, it means plenty of eating drinking and merriment, this year involving copious games of scrabble. However, I didn't fully neglect my duties towards my regime.
I completed the week of circuits and a good 3 mile run around punchestown racecourse and another 35 minute run with a circuit in between which knocked the beejesus out of me.
Still smoking unfortunately..
Got offered a 6 week job playing piano in Connemara in the summer, all expenses paid..hmmm.
Also developed a taste for Texas hold 'em in the Casino so I am going through some fairly weird changes at the moment- all potentially devasting to my marathon goals but I just have to get through it. Chelsea had a great week beating Liverpool in Champs league QF and Arsenal in FA Cup SF. Go on the blues!
I am sleeping in until lunchtime and beyond at that has to stop as I ramp up the piano playing with a goal in sight. So I will get up at 10am and run / do a circuit each day to combat this as a postive change to my lifestyle. Watch this space.

Week 9 - April 2nd -9th. The Good, the bad and the plan
Eventful, yes, certainly... caved in on the smokes, not proud, lasted nearly two weeks, pretty poor show.
That's the bad.
And the good?
Hip flexor injury magically cleared up- tentatively played in our tag rugby game and had a good game, we won 46 -9 which is mammoth. Everybody all smiles and no more so than me as no flare up on acceleration.
Monday off.
Tuesday, full game of football where I was constantly going and scored and made loads of goals whilst doing a lot of tracking back and marking. Very happy.
Weds. Finally get to start my circuits and did 3 rounds. Chelsea beat the Pool at Anfield 3-1 in Champs league. Delighted!
Thursday- first run out in a while- went down Coyningham road and ran back through the park.. was a comfortable 1/2 hour with no problem, could have done more and will do.
Entered into the 3 pre Marathon races and will consider another 10k.
Dates: 17th May- not confirmed as yet 10k
21 July 10k confirmed
27 August 10 mile confirmed
21 Sept Half marathon confirmed
26 Oct Marathon... not confirmed.

Injury Disaster, but remain off the smokes
25 March to 1 April.. Week 8
Two months into this madness and I have gotten an injury- flared up by the Tag game and training. A muscle pull near my hip on my right leg. This is a warning to look after myself if I want to complete this marathon program.
On Tuesday I had to play in goal for football due to the pain and I had to retire after 2 games of tennis on Thursday as I couldn't turn. Haven't done the circuits due to the explosive action triggering off the pain in the leg...so only logical alternative..... REST. But it's hard, especially when you have built up a head of steam.
So an hour walk in Howth and a brief spell swimming are the only things to report this week. And a very boozy night on Monday and a LOT of music work getting demos together and trying to get gigs booked.
On a positive note, thats two weeks off the fags but the cravings can get severe.. but I gotta keep the faith!
Hope to be fit by Sunday for Tag, but won't hold my breath on that. Will do more harm than good if only semi healed. Sense and sensibility at 30 eh?
